We are recruiting 6 apprentices for a variety of roles within our Engineering and Manufacturing functions.

All Apprentices will attend Appris college full time in their first year (from September 2023), covering the knowledge required for their apprenticeship. Apprentices will join the Huddersfield site from July 2024.

The available positions are outline below:

1x Engineering Fitter (Laboratory Operations)

As a Technician in our Laboratory Operations function, you will be responsible for the following:

Carrying out standard and non-standard turbocharger tests.

Working closely with engineers to determine best options/testing approach.

Setting up turbochargers in test cells and on engines to perform turbocharger functional tests.

Setting-up on test engines.

Writing complex test programmes.

Producing test data and assessing for quality prior to handing over to engineering.

Building prototype turbochargers.

Machining non-standard prototype parts.

Carrying out detailed disassembly and inspection of tested components.

Carrying out routine test cell and engine bed maintenance.

Engaging in and complying with HSE standards, policies, procedures, and regulation.

2x Machinist (UK Prototype)

As a Machining apprentice within out UK Prototype division, you will be responsible for the following:

Manufacture of basic and complex components directly from engineering drawings with a problem-solving approach, using a range of manufacturing methods and equipment.

Creation and development of CNC programs and methods of manufacture.

Interpreting and understand complex engineering drawings and the application of geometrical tolerancing.

Creation and development of documented procedures while following best practice.

Obtaining an advanced understanding of various metrology methods and their respective impacts on manufacturing processes.

Engaging in and complying with HSE standards, policies, procedures, and regulations.

2x Technical Support Technician (Plant Operations)

The Operations Apprenticeship pathway builds on machine tool process training across different component types as well as Assembly fitting across multiple product families and lines. This training development is undertaken through process rotations across the Huddersfield manufacturing plant. Further, the approach prepares apprentices for progression into Process technician role.

Completion of daily safety, quality and equipment checks.

Operating a range of machinery in our production areas.

Work to the required company and industry standard whilst retaining responsibility for the quality of own work.

To ensure customer requirements are met by ensuring tasks are completed and any issues resolved and communicated to other members of department.

To be flexible within Huddersfield Turbo Plant, given training as directed to meet operational requirements.

1x Electrical Maintenance Technician (Maintenance)

As an Electrical maintenance apprentice, you will work within our maintenance team, maintaining systems and electrical equipment in an industrial environment. As part of your role as an electrical maintenance apprentice, you will be responsible for ensuring machine tools are available and capable by means of:

Working to company safety standards.

Breakdown repair.

Fault finding.

Planned maintenance.

Breakdown investigation.

Predictive maintenance.

Overview of course:

You will study full time at Appris in your first year learning a broad range of engineering knowledge and skills including:

Producing components using hand fitting techniques.

Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment.

Assembling and testing fluid power systems.

Producing mechanical assemblies.

Preparing and using lathes for turning operations.

Preparing and using milling machines.

After your first year you will come on site for the duration of your apprenticeship to learn your role within the company and will study one day per week at Appris. Included in the 4-year apprenticeship is a 2-year Level 4 HNC qualification.

Entry Requirements:

We are looking for self-motivated people who are a good fit with our business. We want to see and hear that you are genuinely enthusiastic about developing a career in your chosen field, you work well in a team and can plan & organise your time effectively. In addition, you will also possess:

5 GCSEs Grade A

C (level 4-9): Including English language and a Science/Technology subject

Mathematics: GCSE Grade B or above (Level 5-9 equivalent).
