School Finance Manager – Term time only (1 year maternity cover)

Salary: Up to £25’131.99 (Actual) + up to £3561.53 in multiple travel allowance

Start Date: January 2023 or sooner

Talent Accountancy & Finance are looking for a motivated, dedicated School Finance Manager to head up the Finance department at one of our Multi Academy Trusts based in Huddersfield.

The salary for this role is up to £25’131 + multiple workplace allowance of up to £3561.53 with the full school holidays off.

The role

In this role you will work closely with the Finance Director to closely monitor the financial position of the Academy, advising the principle along the way. You will be the Finance Manager over 2 schools, the other being in Halifax.

Some of your main tasks include:

Ensuring invoices are received, approved and processed for payment all done with extreme accuracy

You will be the first point of contact for any Purchase Ledger queries

Complete month end finance checks including all income has been received, coded and posted correctly along with ensuring sales invoices are raised & submitted in a timely manor

Complete month end reconciliations which includes bank reconciliation & control account reconciliations

Manage a team of Finance Officers

Prepare budgets and input information into budget software

Prepare monthly reports for the principle

Work with the Principle & FD to ensure budget targets are achieved

Work with the FD to ensure that the academy is prepared for audits

Identify and adverse variances within the financial reports

Undertake monthly payroll checks and authorise BACS payment for payroll run

To identify and develop specialist roles for the finance team that can be operated across both academies to ensure efficient and effective finance function.

To implement common systems for specific academy finance systems for recording cash and other income

To prepare budgets on a consistent basis to meet the needs of the academy and ensure benchmarking across the two.

To develop a system for recording recharges between the two academies


The Person

AAT Level 3 (or equivalent) or above (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) Part/ Fully Qualified

Previous experience of undertaking accounts

Experience of computer based accounts packages

Experience of working in the public or charity sector is desirable not essential

Experienced in Excel
